SHREVEPORT, LA -- Funeral services for Derrell Ray “Zeke” Howard will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 4, 2012 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Chad Hardbarger assisted by Rev. Harry Forester. Interment will follow in Forest Park West. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday February 3, 2012 at the funeral home.
Zeke was born in Shreveport, LA on November 15, 1934 and passed away on February 1, 2012 at the age of 77. Those who knew him will remember him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a fun-loving jokester who delighted in making people laugh. Dear to his heart were the Fair Park class of 1953 and the Collins Sunday School class at Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department in 1993.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A.A. “Dude” and Eloise Howard and his grandson, Stephen Wayne Schurman, II, He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gwen Howard. Also surviving him are his daughters, Judy Seay and husband, Steve, and Linda Howard and friend, Adana Barber; granddaughters, Rachel Schurman and Sarah Schurman and fiancĂ©, Jordan Powell; brother, Jim Howard and wife, Betty and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving, as pallbearers are Charles Edminston, Donald Ray Cooper, Charles Hickman, Glenn Dumas, Paxton Dickson, Carl Morgan, Jimmy Raye, and Don Nesbitt. Honorary pallbearers are Shag Dickard, Bill Oliver, Randy Coke, Herman Palmer and Sonny Sorrell.
