Dewey Emmons Services Held At Salem Church
Funeral services for Dewey F. Emmons, 76, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 4, from Salem Baptist Church with Rev. L. C. Brown and Rev. Billie Ray Gibbs officiating. Interment followed in Salem Cemetery with Ott & Lee Funeral Home in charge.
Emmons, who was a life long resident of the Goodhope community, passed away Tuesday at the Lackey Convalescent Home following a lengthy illness. A retired farmer, he was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion, was a Mason and Shriner and member of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lois Emmons of Route 1, Lake; four sons, Dewey B. Emmons of Jackson, James Emmons of Santa Rosa, Calif., Charles Emmons of Pearl and Bill Emmons of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Mrs. Billy (Syble) Gordy of Route 1, Forest; 16 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Mae Weaver of Lake; two brothers, Jessie Lee and Merle Emmons, both of Newton.
Pallbearers were Bennie Gene Hollingsworth, Birdeen Emmons, Earl Emmons, Terry Judge, Pete Mayes, and Daniel Nester.
