Dewitt Herman Monk
Dewitt Herman Monk, 75, of Port Acres went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 18, 2007 with his family by his side at their residence in LaBelle. Dewitt was born on July 13, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late James and Ethel Monk. He lived most of his life in Port Acres. He retired from Jefferson Chemical in Port Neches, and was employed several years with Parker Lumber in Port Arthur and Woodville. He loved to sing, dance, and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Jo Monk of 30 years; 3 brothers, James, J.D., and Elmer Monk; and 3 sisters, Daisy, Chrystal, and Thelma Monk. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Berryhill Monk of Daisetta, Texas; 2 sons, Dewitt ``Butch'' Monk, Jr. and wife Carla of Levelland, Texas and Steve R. Monk and wife Troy Lynette of LaBelle, Texas; 2 daughters, Debbie Daigle of Port Acres, Texas and Christi Davalos of Hamshire, Texas; 7 step-children, John Berryhill, Kenneth Berryhill, Bennie Berryhill, Alice Maresh, Bonnie Morris, Joseph Berryhill and Renee Thrillkill; 2 brothers, Donald Monk of Beauxart Gardens, Texas and Dennis Monk of Port Neches, Texas; sister, Jessie ``Bea'' Hahn of Anahuac; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, April 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland. Services will be Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 1:00p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Rev. David Higgs officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County in Nederland.
