MR. D. S. SAUNDERS DIED FRIDAY AT HOME IN REYNOLDS

DEATH COMES TO ONE OF COUNTY'S MOST PROMINENT AND HIGHLY ESTEEMED CITIZENS AFTER LONG ILLNESS.

The announcement of the death of Mr. D. S. (Doles) Saunders, which occurred at his home in Reynolds last Friday, was the occasion of much sorrow to his many Taylor county friends as well as throughout the state, the end coming as a result of an illness of more than a year.

Mr. Saunders was a life-long resident of Reynolds. He was in the 73rd years of his age and was the son of the late Mr. James H. and Mrs. Martha Saunders, the family being one of the most prominent and influential of this section. By profession Mr. Saunders was a mechanic and as such none was ever more proficient.

Mr. Saunders was of a most unassuming and retiring disposition. He was noted for his sterling honesty, high integrity and Christian living and for many years an official of the Reynolds Methodist church and Masonic lodge to each of which he gave unsparingly of time and means for their advancement. As a husband and father he was loving and indulgent; as a friend loyal and true.

Truly no words can describe the influence for good which the consecrated life of this devout man of God exerted in his community -- an influence more lasting than monuments of brass and iron.

Surviving Mr. Saunders, besides a devoted wife, who before their marriage was Miss Viola Byrd, are two noble sons and three fine daughters towit: Messrs H. T. Saunders, of Reynolds; and C. C. Saunders, of Columbus; Mrs. R. C. Johnson, of Columbus; Mrs. Elba Payne, of Warm Springs; and Mrs. Harry Jones, of Columbus.

Funeral services for Mr. Saunders were conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. N. Shell, at the Reynolds Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock followed by interment in the family lot in Hill Crest cemetery with the following friends as pallbearers: Honorary, Messrs E. T. Shealy, D. T. Montfort, Ben [illegible], C. B. Marshall, E. W. Cook, C. H. Neisler, R. E. Aultman and F. M. Carson; active Messrs T. Whatley, T. J. Fountain, E. A. Newsome, Willis Saunders, Edgar Whatley and B. W. Hinton. Funeral director in charge, G. H. Goddard, of Reynolds.
