Don Hair
Funeral services for Don Hair will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria with Dr. Cliff Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball.
Visitation will be at Hixson Brothers, Alexandria Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Mr. Hair, 76, of Alexandria passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at his home after a brief illness.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria. He owned Fox's Café on Lee Street.
Don retired from the City of Alexandria as a Superintendent under the Randolph administration. Don was born in Wisner and grew up in Harrisonburg, having graduated from Harrisonburg High School lettering in basketball every year.
Don served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany 1956-1958. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #398 of Alexandria, F & A.M. He received his 50 year Masonic pin. He was also a member of York Rite Masonic Bodies of Alexandria, Keystone Chapter #44, Summit Council #12, and Trinity Commandery #8. He was also a member of El Karubah Shrine Temple of Shreveport and a member of Jaycee's.
He was an avid outdoorsman and accomplished deer hunter who enjoyed the camaraderie as much as the hunt.
After retirement he enjoyed farming at Cat Island, LA. He also was a passionate gardener. He often grew enough vegetables to give away to family, friends and neighbors. Don was full of mischief and a fun-loving person who enjoyed spending time with his family as well as his dog, Scooter.
He was preceded by his parents, Preston S. and Georgia Fox Hair as well as sister, Billye Evans.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Ruby Jean Bradford Hair of Alexandria; brother, Ronnie M. Hair of Alexandria; three daughters, Connie Hair Guillory and husband Dr. Wilton A. Guillory, Jr. of Alexandria, Donna Hair Futrell and husband Dr. Leo Futrell of Alexandria, and Cherie Hair Flores and husband James C. Flores of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Preston R. Beard of Baton Rouge, Stephen W. Guillory of Alexandria, Olivia Flores, Caldwell Flores, Meredith Flores and Alanna Flores all of Houston, Texas.
Pallbearers will be: Preston R. Beard, Caldwell Flores, Stephen W. Guillory, Stacy Hair, Greg Hair and James McGee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe McGee and Carroll Barron.
