Don Hayes Milam

RUSTON, LA - Graveside services for Don Hayes Milam, 82, of Ruston, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA. Officiating will be Dr. David Newberry and Dr. Michael Hawley. Arrangements are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Milam was born August 4, 1919 and passed away Sunday, October 21, 2001 in Ruston, LA after a sudden illness. Don was a devout Christian and a member of Cook Baptist Church in Ruston. Mr. Milam was a pharmacist in Ruston for 30 years and owner of Milam's Prescription Center. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech, Mechanical Engineering, 1941, and Howard College School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, alabama in 1949. He proudly served his country as a B-25 pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Attaining the rank of captain, he flew 55 missions in the China, Burma, India War Theatre with the Flying Tigers under General Claire Chennault. For his service, he received the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart for wounds received when his plane was shot down over China in 1943.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. B. and Myrtle Milam of Ruston.

Don spent his life in devotion to his family whom he loved and cherished. Survivors are his loving wife of 54 years, Hazel Hilton Milam of Ruston sister, Elaine LaRue of Ruston sons, Mark Milam and wife Judy of Shreveport and Paul Milam and wife Dana of Ruston daughters, Cindy Singleton and husband Jerry of Homer, Kay Redd and husband Blake of The Woodlands, TX grandchildren, Kevin Singleton and wife Renee, Tracey Impson and husband Jason, Sarah Beth Harrington and husband Brooks, Bobby Singleton, Cade Milam, Matthew Milam, Chance Redd, David Milam and great-granddaughters, Ashley Impson and Kylie Singleton.

Pallbearers will be Cade Milam, Bobby Singleton, Jason Impson, Kevin Singleton, David Hilton and Tommy Grafton.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Pot Luck Coffee Club Pat Cardwell, Dale Marrs, Dewey Thurman, Frank Baxter, John Perritt, A. W. Thompson, Harry Farrar, Bill Carter, Billy Baskin, B. H. Rainwater, John LaRue, Richard Jones, Claude Irby, James Evans, Mike Theodos, Dan Hollingsworth and Jim Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cook Baptist Church or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe.
