Don Royce Gaar
(February 1, 1946 - September 9, 2009)

Mr. Don Royce Gaar, age 63 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Born Friday, February 1, 1946 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Roy Gaar and the late Myrtis Crain Gaar.

Mr. Gaar was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was a board member of the Wesley Foundation at Louisiana Tech University. He was also a manager at Otis Engineering, a division of Halliburton, and was a member of the Victoria, Texas Rotary Club.

He was the husband of Virginia Clare Buchanan Gaar of Dodson, Louisiana for 35 years. Also surviving are daughters, Heather Marie (Gaar) Smith and husband Gary Wade of Giddings, TX and Leah Kay (Gaar) Bottoms and husband Jeff of Austin, TX; 5 grand children, Wade, Coby, Victoria, Courtney, and Brittney.

He was predeceased by brothers, Earl Gaar, Jack Gaar and Robert Gaar.

A Funeral service will be at 1:30 PM on Sunday at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, Louisiana. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery, near Dodson.

The family will receive friends at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2009, and on Sunday, September 13, 2009 from noon until service time.

Steven Gaar, Mike Kelly, Jay Hinckley, David Gaar, Drew Gadberry, and West Baldwin will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Greg Gaar, Guy Gaar, Jr., Bob Baldwin, Jamie Hemrick, and Ryan Hemrick.

Memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 7458 Hwy. 126, Dodson, LA 71422, American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the United Methodist Church Children's home in Ruston, LA.
