Donald Lee Hodges

A celebration of life memorial service is planned Aug. 27 for Donald Lee ``Don'' Hodges, who died peacefully Aug. 16, 2004, at his home in South Lake Tahoe following a long illness. He was 53.

Don was born Oct. 19, 1950, at Yuma, Ariz., to John Calvin Hodges Sr. and Ruby Price Hodges. He was raised in Yuma and Southern California, graduated from Whittier High School in 1968, and attended community college for one year. Over the years he was employed as both a professional cook and in construction. He moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1983, where he worked in catering and at several local restaurants. He married Carolyn Robinson McKissock in 1985. Don was an avid camper, fisherman, gardener and gourmet cook. A musician and artist, he played the guitar and enjoyed drawing and watercolor painting. He loved working with his hands in woodworking and creating a beautiful garden.

He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Hodges; stepchildren, Ian McKissock, Joline McKissock Welch and Kira McKissock; son-in-law, Joshua Welch; grandchildren, Teagan Welch and Asher Welch, all of South Lake Tahoe; brothers, Gerald Mitchell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gil Hodges of La Habra, Calif., and Aubry Hodges of Oroville, Calif.; sister, Donna Jean Logsdon of Spokane, Wash., former loving wife, companion and caregiver, Carolyn McKissock of South Lake Tahoe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, John Calvin Hodges Jr.

A celebration of life memorial service for family and friends will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Fallen Leaf Lake campground. For more information regarding the memorial celebration contact the deacons at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
