Donald Machen, Tallulah, Dies of Heart Attack

Donald Machen of Tallulah, 35, brother of Hershel and James Machen of Winnfield, died of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon while at work. He was an air conditioning repairman.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete this morning.

He is survived by his wife and four children; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Machen, Sr., of Bossier City and formerly of Winnfield; eight brothers and sisters, Mrs. Joe (Mabel) Ellis, Bill Machen, Mrs. Maudine Bolton, all of Shreveport; D. C. Machen, Mrs. Maurice (Eva) Pope, and Mrs. Kenneth (Bobby Jean) Weeks, all of Bossier City; Hershel Machen and James Machen, Winnfield.

Donald grew up and went to school in Lake Providence.

Funeral Services For Don Machen Held Thursday

Funeral services for Don Machen, 36, were held Thursday at 10:00 a. m. at the Chapel of Crothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bossier City at 2:20 p. m. The Rev. George Tharpe officiated at the graveside services.

Mr. Machen died unexpectedly Tuesday while working at Lake Bruin. According to Dr. Joseph Whitaker, coroner of Tensas Parish, Mr. Machen apparently died from heat exhaustion followed by a heart attack. He was employed by Garland's Refrigeration Service of Tallulah.

He was a native of Calvin and had been a resident of Tallulah for the past 13 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Shirley Machen, Tallulah; two sons, Robert and Donnie, Tallulah; two daughters, Sandra and Sharon Machen, both of Tallulah; four brothers, Bill and D. C. Machen, both of Bossier City; Hershel Machen, Jr., and James Machen, both of Winnfield; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Ellis, Mrs. Eva Pope, Mrs. Kenneth Weeks, all of Bossier City, and Mrs. Maudine Bolton, Shreveport; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Machen, Bossier City.

Pallbearers were Charlie McKinnie, Cecil Wells, George McDonald, Wayne Brown, Bobby Sullivan and Dave Moore.
