Donald Monk
May 15, 1933 - December 20, 2012

Donald Monk, 79, of Nederland, died Thursday, December 20, 2012. He was born on May 15, 1933, in Port Arthur, to Eithel and James C. Monk, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. Donald was a veteran of the United States National Guard. He was employed as a brick mason, having worked for Texaco Oil for over forty years before his retirement, and also served on the workman committee.

Donald enjoyed coaching little league and Babe Ruth baseball, as well as soccer. Having participated as choir director for several Baptist churches, he was a longtime member and Deacon of First Baptist Church, Nederland. Donald enjoyed spending time singing with the churches Celebration Choir and Silvertones. He will always be remembered as a man who loved his family and spending time with them.

Donald is survived by his wife, Catherine Monk of Nederland; daughter, Charla Davidson and her husband, Ronny, of Nederland; son, Randy Monk and his wife, Medina, of Groves; grandchildren, Emily Tomlinson, Eric Sturrock, Ronald Glen Davidson, Jr., Susan Davidson, Chad Monk, Nina Monk, and Tory Begnaud; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Jessie Bea Hahan.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and ten brothers and sisters.

A gathering of Mr. Monk's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2012, at Broussard's 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, with entombment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
