SLIDER

Mr. Donald Sherwin Slider, 84, of Hurley, Miss., died Sunday, June 3, 2007, in Lucedale, Miss.

Mr. Slider was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Hurley. He was a longtime member of Magnolia Springs Assembly of God Church. He was a college graduate and had retired from the Civil Service as a Contract Administrator. Mr. Slider was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army, where he earned the ATO Medal, APTO Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a Marine Engineer and supervised the operation of the ship's engine room and crew in operating engines, pumps, injectors, and other mechanical, electrical, and sanitary equipment. Mr. Slider had a passion for his family, gospel music, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edith Slider; brothers, A.W. “Buddy” Slider and Howard Slider.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Honor Corinne Ward Slider; children, Donald C. (Martha) Slider of Magee, Miss., William H. “Bill” Slider of Leaksville, Miss., Diane Slider (Sandy) Moore of Hartwell, Ga., Grace Slider Wagner of Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Vernon (Anita) Slider of Hurley; sister, Margaret Slider Driver of Nashville, Tenn., nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2007, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Magnolia Springs Assembly of God Church in Hurley.

Graveside services will follow at the Magnolia Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Clary and Rev. Jerry Goff officiating. Arrangements provided by Holder-Wells Funeral Home, Moss Point, Miss.
