Donis Doris Hutchinson

Donis Doris Hutchinson May, 99, of McComb, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia. Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb and continues at 9 a.m. Thursday at Thompson Baptist Church until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Brent Parker, the Rev. Jim Law and the Rev. Jimmy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. May was born Aug. 17, 1905, in Amite County, the first child of Robert and Velma Whittington Hutchinson. At an early age, she made her public profession of faith at Thompson Baptist Church and was baptized in the Amite River by the Rev. Elisha Gardner. She was a faithful member and served as a Sunday school teacher until bad health forced her retirement. She was a faithful prayer warrior all her life and for many years was the oldest member of Thompson Baptist Church.

Mrs. May was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, C.B. May Sr. whom she married June 19, 1924; a sister, Florence Gatlin Burris; two brothers, Nolan and James R. Hutchinson; a granddaughter, Patti May Crosby; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Sharp May.

Survivors include a son, C.B. May Jr. and his wife Nettie Lee of the Thompson community; a daughter, Mary Kay May Bentley and her husband Tom of Thompson; three sisters, Audrey Wilson of Smithdale, Elease Deer of Bogue Chitto and Eileen Cato of McComb; one grandson, Tom Bentley Jr. and his wife Nancy of Auburn, Wash.; six granddaughters and their husbands, Judy May and Reynolds of Woodville, Ala., Gwen May Martin and Bruce of Navarre, Fla., Debra May McRaney and Hal of O'Hatchee, Ala., Anita May Sweatt, and Donna Bentley Shipman and Larry, all of Thompson, and Gerri Bentley Lujan and Marshall of New Mexico; 19 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Elvin Barron, Hubert Deer, Greg Maxwell, Dennis Lindsey, Billy Nunnery and Doug Crosby. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Thompson Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thompson Baptist Church Piano Fund.
