Holliday, Mrs. Doris Cox

Mrs. Doris Cox Holliday went to meet her Lord on Monday morning, April 25, 2016. Mrs. Holliday was a native of the Deep South, born in Madison, Mississippi on December 16, 1919. She married SMSgt Charles Dewitt Holliday in 1938 and accompanied him through a military career lasting from 1941 to 1963. They settled in Montgomery, Alabama, where she spent most of her adult life before moving to The Arbors in Newport News, Virginia in 2006. She spent the last 4 1/2 years with her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Allen Bunyard of Yorktown, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt; parents, Eva Perry and Murray Smith Cox; brother, Murray Smith Cox, Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Rebekah Aliene Bunyard.

She is survived by her son, Charles Dewitt Holliday, Jr. (Jan), of Hoover, AL; granddaughter, Julie Morrow (Russell), of Moody, AL; grandson, Christopher Holliday (Ashley), of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Gwen Bunyard (Allen) of Yorktown, VA; grandsons Russell Bunyard (Jessica), of Stevensville, MT and Chad Bunyard (Bertelle), of Mechanicsville, VA; five great-grandchildren, Logan and Hayden Bunyard of Mechanicsville, and Micah, Abigail and Noah Bunyard of Stevensville; and her sister-in-law, Dot Cox of Madison, MS.

Mrs. Holliday was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL for over 50 years, and attended Christ the King Episcopal Church in Tabb, VA during her residency there. She was known as a kind, loving, individual who made friends wherever she lived. She made the world a happier, more peaceful and beautiful place and will be sorely missed by her many friends and relatives.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109 from 5:00-7:00 pm. She will be laid to rest beside her husband of 58 years on Saturday, April 30th at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery, 3001 Simmons Drive, Montgomery, AL 36108 at 11:00 am. Reception for friends and family to follow at Fairview United Methodist Church, 5500 Old Selma Rd, Montgomery, AL 36108.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Fairview United Methodist Church.
