Doris J. Coleman

Doris J. Coleman, 89, passed away on February 8, 2011 with her daughter by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, R. Paxton Coleman.

Mrs. Coleman was born on November 4, 1921 in Dodson, LA to the late Lonnie and Agnes Jones. At 16, she was a freshman at Birmingham Southern College. The next year she transferred to the University of Alabama where she graduated. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She spent 15 happy years in Macon, GA where she was a charter member and active in the Riverside Methodist Church and various organizations. She moved to Jacksonville in 1969. She loved her family and tennis and enjoyed football, sewing, bridge, politics, finance and learning.

Survivors include her daughter Virginia Jacob; grandchildren, Leon Armbrester, Jr. (Dawn) and Victoria Parks (Ken); great-grandchildren Jenna Armbrester and Sophia and Paxton Parks.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011 in Oaklawn Cemetery.
