Hebert, Doris Virginia Emmons, 84, of Carthage, Texas, died Thursday services at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Carthage burial in Restland Memorial Park Cemetery, Carthage arrangements through Hawthorn Funeral Home, Carthage.

Doris Virginia Emmons Hebert, a resident of Carthage for 56 years, died on Sep 18, 2003 after a prolonged illness. She was born on Oct 1, 1918 to John Morris and Hattie Olivia Kirtley Emmons in Atlanta LA. She married Wilbur Charles ``Buster'' Hebert on Oct 7, 1938.
Doris attended Louisiana Normal College in Natchitoches before transferring to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she met her husband-to-be. At LSU she majored in education, joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority and was an elected member of the Beauty Court of the campus Queen.
In July 1947 the Heberts moved to Carthage where the couple established the Western Auto store on the northeast corner of the square. Doris was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Junior Service League, on the Service League's Library Board and in the Carthage Dance Club.
Over the years she and Buster traveled to Europe, Australia, Alaska, New Zealand and the islands in the South Pacific. She was also an avid bridge player. Doris was a devoted wife and a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son Charles Morris Hebert and his wife Louise of Trophy Club, a granddaughter Amy Louise Van Meter and her husband Ashley; three great granddaughters Grayson Ashley Van Meter, Ryane Olivia Van Meter and Lillyan Louise Van Meter all of Humber TX; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many loving friends.
Services were on Sunday, Sep 21, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home of Carthage.
