DOROTHY JANE UZICK
Dorothy Jane Uzick, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, in Sugar Land, Texas.
Dorothy was born in Morrow Bay, Ark., on Oct. 4, 1923. She was one of three children and grew up in Rison, Ark. Dorothy attended nursing school in Hot Springs, Ark., where she met her husband, Max, who was a patient. They were married on April 29, 1944, by the justice of the peace and, then, again on May 4, 1944, by a rabbi in Houston, where they had moved to start their lives together.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Smith and Linda Kolojaco and husband, Roy Kolojaco; her three granddaughters, Stacie Dawson and husband, Trent Dawson; Shelia Kolojaco-Herzik; and husband, Al Herzik, and Tyna Croes; her five great-grandchildren, Kayla Upchurch, Ashley Dawson, James Croes, Faythe Croes and Braden Dawson; and one great-great-grandson, Jakob Tucker; along with numerous other extended family and friends, all of whom will cherish and honor her memory.
Dorothy was the family's backbone. She was a very giving and caring person. She always welcomed everyone with open arms. She was a comedian and had a great sense of humor. She loved everybody, and everybody loved her. Holidays at the lake house in Conroe or wherever Dorothy and Max called home, always brought everyone together.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Emanu El Memorial Park in Houston, with Rabbi Kenny Weiss officiating.
