Mrs. Dorothy Ponder Bate, 91, of Lufkin, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, in Lufkin.
Dorothy was born on April 11, 1920, in San Augustine County, Texas, to Nettie (Thompson) Ponder and William F. Ponder. She was employed as a Secretary, and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with interment following in the Liberty Hill Cemetery, with Alton Shaw officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2012, from the hours of 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas 75972.
Her Survivors include: Sons: Herman E. Bate and his wife, Patty of Lufkin, Jerry M. Bate of Lufkin and special friend, Arabela Gay of Richmond, Sandy R. Bate, and his wife, Janet A. of Etoile; Grandchildren: Steven Bate, Jeb Bate, Jon Bate, Sarah Bate, Laura Jones, and Jennifer Hilliard; Great-Grandchildren: Hannah, Tyler, Connor, Avery, Drew, Chad, Sarah, and Lyndsey; and Sister-in-law: Caroline Ponder of San Augustine.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herman C. Bates; Brother: Billy Ponder, Sister: Maurine Ponder; nephew: Neal Ponder.
Pallbearers will be Jeb Bate, Steve Bate, Jon Bate, David Ponder, George Thompson, Jack Britian, and Frank Nance.
