Dorothy Reeves Talton

Dorothy Reeves Talton was called to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was the oldest daughter born to Benjamin Ruben Reeves and Jo Essie Reeves on Aug. 23, 1928, in Buckholts, Texas. Both parents are deceased.

She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She has always been the caregiver in her family and to the end was more concerned for her family than herself. Dorothy was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Athens for 45 years and volunteered at the Athens Food Pantry for many years. She worked 16 years on the nursing staff at Lakeland Medical Center.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 56 years, Arthur I. Talton. Her children are Ardith Daily and husband, Patrick, Dayna Abowd and husband, Joe and Tamara Talton. One brother, Kenneth Reeves of Rockdale, also survived her. Surviving sisters are Sue Dodson and Tina Crenshaw of Irving, Patsy Rives of Texas City, B.J. Fritz of Kilgore and Connie Rogan of Tampa, Fla. She had five grandchildren who will miss her and miss her bear hugs as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Joe Abowd, Robert Barnett, Pat Daily, Ralph Dodson, Hunter Dunn, Jim Ownes, Tom Taylor and Gene Williamson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701; First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 911, Athens, TX 75751; or to Henderson County Food Pantry, 715 East Corsicana, Athens, TX 75751.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, which is located at 1910 Hwy. 31 East in Athens.
