Dolly Welwood
Dorothy Weaver Welwood, 81, died peacefully at her home on May 24, 2011. She was a longtime resident of Dallas and recently moved to Granbury, Texas.
Dolly was born in Waxahachie, Texas, on May 27, 1930, the daughter of Juel E. Weaver and Ruth Akins Weaver. She graduated as Valedictorian from Midlothian High School, where she excelled in both academics and music. She attended Hockaday Junior College but quickly transferred to SMU after capturing the eye of a handsome young man, Steve Welwood. Dolly graduated with honors from SMU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. Dolly and Steve married on June 9, 1951. Dolly taught piano music to children until she became an interior designer for Gagewood Homes. She dedicated her life to her husband and family for 60 years. She served the Lord with gladness over many years at Lovers Lane Methodist Church, Northwest Bible Church and most recently Dallas Bible Church. She also loved studying the Bible and attending Bible Study Fellowship. Dolly's love for music continued throughout her life, and she never stopped pursuing her study of classical music. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and hostess and brightened the lives of all who knew her. Dolly enjoyed being a member of The Village Gardeners and entertaining her neighborhood coffee group. She was also an excellent bridge player and traveled the world with her husband.
Dolly was preceded in death by her beloved, seven year old granddaughter, Amanda Jane Welwood.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Welwood; sister, Judy Weaver Brown; son, Curt Welwood and wife Nancy; daughter, Julie Spencer and husband Bob; son, Bill Welwood and wife Liz; 5 grandchildren, Alyssa Welwood, Adam Welwood and wife Amber, Travis Welwood, Kimberly Welwood, and Alec Welwood; 2 great grandchildren, Jackson and Clark Welwood.
The funeral service will be held at Dallas Bible Church on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. A private family graveside service will follow at Restland Memorial Park.
