DUANE K. MCCARTER, M.D.
Duane K. McCarter, M.D. 78, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2005 at Midland Hospice House. Duane was born on October 3, 1926 in Topeka, the son of James Clinton and Martha Avis King McCarter.
He graduated from Highland Park High School, received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1949, his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas in 1955 and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1958. Dr. McCarter proudly served his country as an officer in the U.S. Navy, being stationed in Guam. He retired from his private medical practice in 1998 after serving the Topeka community for more than 35 years.
Duane married Florene Emily Myzer. She preceded him in death. He married Sandra Jean Hatten on December 24, 1961. She survives as well as their children Kevin and wife, Susan McCarter, Karla and husband, Todd Burnett, Kyle and wife, Michelle McCarter, James and wife, Gretchen McCarter and Julie McCarter and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Jack and wife, Grace McCarter, Joyce and husband, Carl Metzler, Bryce McCarter and Boyce and wife, Jan McCarter and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren and three nephews.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. McCarter will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. Tuesday until service time.
