Dudley Peters Shell

Dudley Peters Shell was born June 13, 1914, in Winnfield, Louisiana, and died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, June Davis Shell; his son, Stephen Davis Shell; his parents, Dudley Floyd and Della Peters Shell; his brothers, Dennis and Denton Shell; and his sister, Doris Shell. He is survived by his son, Dudley P. Shell, Jr., of Natchitoches; his sister, Dorothy Shell of Winnfield; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Berry Davis of Monroe and Sara Jackson Shell of Winnfield; one nephew, John Michael Davis of New Orleans; and four nieces, Elise Shell of Houston, Texas, Jan Beville and Fran Walton of Winnfield, and Kate Davis of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mr. Shell was graduated from Winnfield High School and attended Louisiana Tech. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. For many years he was manager of City Lumber and Supply of Winnfield; at the time of his death he was employed at PBS Lumber Manufacturing.

Mr. Shell was a member of First United Methodist Church, Crusaders for Christ Sunday School Class, United Methodist Men, and Rotary International. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 F&AM, a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow, a charter member of the Pine Ridge Country Club, an avid golfer, an accomplished bridge player, and a devoted fan of Winnfield Tiger and Tech Bulldog athletics. He enjoyed delivering newspapers to Winn Parish Medical Center patients every morning.

Services for Mr. Shell will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, in the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield. Burial will be in the Winnfield City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 15, in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jared Beville, Kiah Beville, Tommy Harrel, Jr., Rusty Russell, Matt Walton, and Sidney Walton. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Acosta, Gregg Davies, George Harrel, Dicky Heard, Eddie Jenkins, Dr. Mark Shelton, and members of the Crusaders for Christ Sunday School Class, the Eastern Star Lodge 151, and the Winnfield Rotary Club.
