Earl N. Whittington
Earl Newman Whittington, 90, of McComb, died Nov. 15, 2010, at his residence.
Visitation is 9 a.m. Thursday at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb until services there at 11 a.m. Dr. David Millican, the Rev. Woody Rimes and the Rev. Ben B. James will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
Mr. Whittington was born Jan. 4, 1920, in McComb. He was the son of Walter A. and Bessie Whittington.
He was a retired engineer for Illinois Central Railroad and a World War II veteran who served in the European Theatre, 820th Engineer Company C Battalion and received numerous commendations.
Mr. Whittington was a member of the Railroad Retirees Club, First Baptist Church, McComb and American Legion. He attended Mississippi State University before enlisting in the military.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Waldon A. Whittington.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma C. ``Billie'' Whittington of McComb; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Shirley Whittington of Prentiss; a daughter, Lynn A. Flint of Biloxi; a family friend, Frank Baskett of Biloxi; a sister-in-law, Shirley L. Whittington of McComb; a grandson, Robby Baskett of Biloxi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Whittington, Hiram G. Williams, Eddie Dale, Leslie Wilson, John Polk and Ric Varnell.
