Death Takes E. Y. Watson

E. Y. Watson, Baytown businessman, died at 5 a.m. today in a Houston hospital after a long illness which had kept him in and out of hospitals several times in the past year.

Watson, wholesale and retail oil distributor and owner of an insurance agency, had been in Baytown since 1932. He was 50.

He came here from the family home at Lufkin and established a small service station on Market Street in Baytown. Later, he became a wholesale distributor; then branched out into insurance and real estate.

He was an active member of the Methodist Church. He was chairman of the board of stewards of St. Mark's Methodist Church and taught a Sunday School class until his health failed. He was still a member of the board at the time of his death.

The Watson's only child, Mrs. Ernest Canat [sic Canet], Jr. of Baytown, was on a vacation trip to California when her father's condition became critical Tuesday. She was notified and is en route home. Funeral services will be announced by Earthman Funeral home when Mrs. Canat [sic Canet] arrives. She is expected late today or tomorrow.

Survivors besides the daughter are his widow; a brother, W. D. Watson of Baytown; a half-brother, J. L. Smith of Lufkin; and two half-sisters, Mrs. B. A. Beard of Nacogdoches and Mrs. E. D. Rudd [sic Mrs. E. V. Rugg] of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
