Earnest “Sonny” Darryl Emmons
Shreveport, LA - Memorial services for Earnest Emmons, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport. Officiating will be Brother Chad Hardbarger, pastor of Emanuel Baptist Church, Buncombe Road.
Sonny went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2016 at the Willows Nursing and Rehab Center in Kilgore Texas after a lengthy illness. He was born June 22, 1936 in Delhi, Louisiana and was a resident of Shreveport, LA for 60 years. Sonny was a retired electrician working for Swepco and was a member of the IBEW, Local 329 as a recording secretary until retirement in the late eighties.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Sue Emmons and parents, Clarence and Effie Emmons. He is survived by three sisters, Lois Marie Gryder of Vivian, Lynette Pevy and husband, Andrew of Minden, and Linda McClung and husband, Wayne of Haughton La.; two children, daughter, Shannon E. Lee and husband, Michael of Liberty City, TX; son, Darryl Emmons of Shreveport; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In his high school days he made a name for himself as a basketball player for Vivian High School. There were many articles in the local paper outlining his achievements during those years. In his later years he became a diehard LSU fan. Sonny served as a Qualified Marksman and Sergeant with the Co. A 199thInfantry Regiment of the Army National Guard of Louisiana. He was an avid hunter, as he was a member of the Blue Tick Hunting Club. He spent many of his retirement years fishing and entertaining family and friends at his fishing camp on Toledo Bend Lake. After the death of his wife Betty he was known on a first name basis by patrons and staff at the various eating establishments along Pines Road.
