Edgar W. Smith

Edgar Warren Smith, 65, 6211 Joyce St., died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.

He was a retired supervisor for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and a substitute bus driver for the Rapides Parish schools. He was a member of Alexandria Masonic Lodge No. 398, the Cenla Shrine Club and El Karubah Oriental Band. He was a native of Cheneyville.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hazel Smith of Alexandria; a son, John W.G. Smith of Smyrna, Tenn.; five brothers, Billy Petty of Jasper, Texas, Benard Smith of Belzoni, Miss., and Gerald Smith, Robert Smith and Earl Smith, all of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Floriene Hall of West Monroe and Eloise Pilgreen of Shreveport; his mother, Edna Warren Petty of Alexandria; his stepmother, Zelma Beaver of Lecompte; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Hixson Bros. with Drs. James Clay and Luther Hall officiating. Burial will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens.
