Edith Russell
Edith Russell, 94, of Arlington, Texas, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, in Arlington.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1912, near Shubuta, and married Carl Russell on Aug. 20, 1941, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The honeymoon came to an abrupt end on Dec. 7, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. She was very proud to be married to a World War II veteran and career military man. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. The word most used to describe her was ``feisty.'' A former member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Odessa, she was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Euless, the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Woman's Auxiliary. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Carl Russell.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Poole of Houston, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Stephanie Russell of Arlington; a sister, Virgie Tupa of Laurel; a brother, Earl Hawkins of Euless, Texas; two grandsons and their wives, Glenn and Susie Jeffery of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jason and Haruka Oatis of Tahara, Japan; a granddaughter, Ashley Oatis of Flower Mound, Texas; a great-grandson, Garitt Jeffery of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Moore Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
