Edna Elizabeth “Betty” Jackson

A loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, Edna Elizabeth “Betty” Jackson, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was a resident of Williamsburg Retirement Community.

A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, she attended St. Joseph's Academy and afterwards was employed at Fidelity National Bank. On Jan. 29, 1948, she married John H. “Jack” Jackson at St. Joseph Cathedral - the two of them recently celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage. After their wedding, she devoted many years as a community and church volunteer in addition to being a full-time housewife and mother. She later worked for the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge with the Foundation Fund Drive and later as credit union manager for the Department of Corrections.

Survivors include her husband, John H. “Jack” Jackson, of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Jacquee Carvin and husband Bill, of New Orleans; along with grandchildren, Christopher S. Leone, Chris Carvin and Jessica E. Carvin; two sons, Richard B. Jackson, of Florence, Ala., and Gerald P. “Jay” Jackson and wife Joyce, of Baton Rouge; with grandchildren, Sara E. Kapp, Kyle M. Jackson and Bret M. Jackson; a sister, Barbara Gerald Blanchard, of Baton Rouge; 11 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brook Samuel Gerald Sr. and Julia Helena “Lena” Kleinpeter Gerald; and two brothers, Brook “Brooksie” S. Gerald Jr. and Donald F. Gerald Sr.

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 14, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Brother Ray Hebert, S.C. Services will conclude with burial in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Our Lady of Mercy St. Vincent de Paul Ministry.
