Edward Jackson Grigg

Mr. Edward Jackson Grigg, 84, of Winnfield, Louisiana died Thursday, January 28, 2010.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Winnfield, Louisiana, with the Reverend Dr. Calvin E. Phelps officiating.

Mr. Grigg was born in Liberty Hill, Louisiana, and graduated from Bienville High School. He attended Louisiana State University before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated in 1953 from Louisiana Tech University with a B.S. in forestry.

Following retirement from Continental Can Company as an area forest manager in 1983, Mr. Grigg was a forestry advisor and independent tree farmer.

Mr. Grigg was a deacon of First Baptist Church, former member of the Sanctuary Choir and taught Sunday School for youth and adults.

He twice served as president of Winnfield Lions Club and was a past president of Louisiana Tech Forestry Alumni Association. He was a former Gideon, a 32nd degree mason and a member of Eastern Star Lodge #151 F&AM in Winnfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jackson Grigg, Sr., and Winona Elliott Whittington; and a son, Jack Norwood ``Woody'' Grigg.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jessie Nell Wimberly Grigg of Winnfield; his daughter, Ginger Lynn Grigg Peterson and her husband, Otis E. Peterson, Jr., of West Monroe, Louisiana; his son, Jess Wimberly Grigg and his wife, Sherry Dawn McDonald Grigg, of La Grange, Kentucky; grandsons Daniel Edward Peterson and Michael Otis Peterson of San Diego, California; granddaughter Rachel Nicole Grigg, of La Grange, Kentucky; a sister Muriel Gean Stegall Northam and her husband, Bill Northam, of Durant, Oklahoma; two nieces, Lorna Dauzat, of Clayton, Louisiana, and Ruth Ann Ashley and her husband, Pat, of Henderson, Tennessee; two nephews, Kenneth Stegall and his wife, Janis, of The Woodlands, Texas; Jimmy Stegall and his wife, Paula, of Durant, Oklahoma.

Honorary pallbearers will be The Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class and the First Baptist Church deacon body.

Visitation will follow the service in the Fireside Room of the church.
