L. Edwin Black Dies; Services Set Wednesday

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Monroe for L. Edwin Black, 56, of 1203 N. McGuire St., Monroe.

The Rev. A. T. Mitchell will officiate.

Mr. Black died Monday at his residence of an apparent heart attack.

He was a staff representative for the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jimmie Black of Monroe; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Woolie of West Monroe; and four sisters, Mrs. Iris Cathey of Castor, Miss Marjorie Black and Mrs. Ruby Higginbotham, both of Monroe, and Mrs. Eugenia McKinney of Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Fred Young, Ben Wisenor, Charles Anding, Garland Webb, Ray Stewart and Harry Westbrook.

Honorary pallbearers will be staff representatives of Region VII, AFL-CIO and the state president.

Funeral services for L. Edwin Black, 56, of 1203 McGuire St., Monroe, were held at 10 a.m. today at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. A. T. Mitchell and Dean Torrence officiating.

Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Black died Monday at his residence of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Black was a staff representative for the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), a member of the Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe and the Masonic Lodge and a veteran of World War II.
