Dr. Edwin C. Simonton, Jr.
(April 21, 1925 - December 26, 2005)

SHREVEPORT, LA - A memorial service for Dr. Edwin C. Simonton, Jr. will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 11:00 a. m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. A beloved father, brother, cousin and ``Papa Doc'', Ed died peacefully at home on Monday, December 26, 2005 at age 80. Ed was a graduate of South Highlands School, C. E. Byrd High School, Louisiana State University, and a 1948 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He was a member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. He was proud to have served our community as a medical doctor for over 50 years. He was honored by being named President of the Shreveport Medical Society, the Louisiana State Orthopedic Association and the Caddo School for Exceptional Children. An Eagle Scout and a Navy veteran, he served as a M.A.S.H. physician in Korea.

Ed enjoyed hunting, golf, photography, skiing and collecting-everthing! He was a founding member of the Shreveport Ski Club and led trips to Aspen in the 1960's. He was affectionately known by the ski club as the ``Red Baron''. Most importantly, Ed was an avid LSU football fan, evidenced by his LSU inscribed swimming pool. He was known for his guayaberas and his good humor. His bright smile, sharp wit, loving heart and hard head will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Stuart Simonton; his children, Edwin C. Simonton, III, Mary Campbell and husband, John, Susie Crichton and husband, Scott, Mark T. Simonton and wife, Tracy, and Teri Simonton; grandchildren, Stuart, Sam, Mamie, Jimmy, Lily, Nathaniel, Zachary, Taylor and Travis; cousins, Stuart Butler and wife, Colyn, Eddie Butler and wife, Maria, A. B. Cox; as well as his beloved cat, Tiger.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Stuart Crichton, Sam Crichton, Jimmy Cowles, Taylor Campbell and Travis Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Allums, George Belchic, Henry Brenner, Wesley Glassell, Sam Loeb, John Meyer, Gene St. Martin, Tom Stagg, and A. L. Wedgeworth. The family requests that memorials be made to Christus Schumpert Sutton Children's Hospital or First Presbyterian Church.
