MADISON -- E. Lowell Marsalis, 83, a retired Illinois Central Gulf Railroad Company, died of heart failure Friday at St. Catherine's Village.

Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson.

Mr. Marsalis, a New Orleans native, was a former Homewood, Ill., resident. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a former president of the Car Department Officers' Association of America Railroads.

Survivors include: wife, Alice; son, Ed Marsalis of Montgomery; daughter, Leslie Hecht of Homewood; brothers, Buster Marsalis of Vicksburg and Wilton Marsalis of Meridian; and four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
