DR. SIMONTON FUNERAL HERE AT 4 O'CLOCK

Deceased was Well-Known Physician In Shreveport

Funeral services for Dr. Edwin Simonton, 48, well-known physician of Shreveport, who died at a sanitarium there Tuesday, following a long illness, will be held in Greenwood cemetery here this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The funeral cortege left the Simonton home in Shreveport at 1 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive here sometime before 4 this afternoon. An American Legion service will be conducted at the grave.

Dr. Simonton was born at Vernon, Jackson parish, on Sept. 8, 1886. He received his education at Louisiana Tech and at Louisiana State University, where he received his bachelor of science degree in 1908. His medical degree was received from Tulane university in 1913.

After serving his internship for two years in the New Orleans Charity hospital, he did general practice in Jonesboro. He later took a post-graduate course at the Eye-Ear, Nose and Throat hospital in New Orleans. During the World's War he served in the Medical Corps.

Dr. Simonton, at the close of the war, established residence in Shreveport, where he practiced his specialty of eye, ear, nose and throat work continuously until his death.

The deceased was a fellow member of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Shreveport, State and Southern Medical societies and the American Medical Association. He also had membership in the Masonic lodge, the Shrine and the American Legion.

On June 30, 1919, Dr. Simonton was married to Miss Florence Peters. They had two children, Edwin C. Simonton, Jr., and Mary Stewart Simonton. Surviving besides his widow and children, are his father, Dr. A. E. Simonton, of Jonesboro, and a sister, Mrs. Greene Butler, of Homer.

The Rev. Mr. McFadden will have charge of the services. Burial will be under the direction of the Osborn funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Dr. W. S. Kerlin, Dr. Allyn Moise, Dr. John L. Scarles, Sr., Dr. O. C. Rigby, George Seales and John P. Graham of Ruston.
