Edwin Thomas “Tom” Murphy

SHREVEPORT

Services for Mr. Edwin Thomas “Tom” Murphy, 58, of Shreveport, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday September 1 at Rose-Neath Marshall St. Chapel. Rev. David Laverty, Pastor of the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Mr. Murphy, a Pilot at Shreveport Aviation, died in an airplane accident Saturday August 29, 1981. Born in New Orleans, La. and a resident of Shreveport most of his life, he attended St. John's High School and received a degree in Geology from Centenary College. He had been a Flight Instructor for well over 20 years and a Pilot over 42 years was well-known in Shreveport flight circles and considered outstanding in his field. Mr. Murphy held a Certificate of Designation from the Federal Aviation Administration as a Private Pilot Examiner, a Commercial and Instrument Rating Examiner and as a Flight Instructor.

During World War II, he flew B-26 bombers and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Peggy Slay Murphy, mother, Azilee Murphy, son, Michael Thomas Murphy, all of Shreveport, daughters, Cathy Anne Murphy of Shreveport and Lynda Murphy Juneau of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Betty Murphy McCabe of Shreveport; two grandchildren, Leanne and Robert Juneau of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Lindell Hallman, Frank P. Yarbrough, Fred Arthur, Edward F. Blanchard, Wayne Taylor and Charles Reed.

Memorials may be made to the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church.
