Daughter of Pioneer Dies

Mrs. W. P. (Effie Eunice) Lewis, 93, lifelong resident of the Antioch Community, died early Thursday morning after a lengthy illness. Her husband preceded her in death in 1949.

Mrs. Lewis was born May 26, 1877, the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Mary Ann Blackmon Lewis. Her father was one of Jones County's early Methodist Circuit Rider preachers and he helped organize the first Methodist Church in the Antioch Community over 150 years ago. At an early age, Mrs. Lewis joined this church which was then a small log cabin.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m from the Antioch Methodist Church with the Rev. W. B. Alsworth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church Friday at 2 p.m. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by one son, Troy Lewis, Antioch Community; two daughters, Mrs. David T. Ishee, Mrs. Oree Parker, both of Antioch Community; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jack Nix, Oree Baucum, Joe Touchstone, Oree Parker Jr., Hugh Milton Lee and Oree Baucum Jr.
