Miss Elba Thornton
SHREVEPORT - Services for Miss Elba Thornton, 105, of Shreveport will be held on Christmas Eve at 10 a.m. at the Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, La. Officiating will be Ellen Montegudo, pastor of Blanchard United Methodist Church, where Miss Thornton has been a loyal member for the past twelve years.
Miss Thornton died Friday, December 21, 1990, at Heritage Manor Westwood in Shreveport. Pallbearers will be grand-nephews and interment will be in the Hebron Cemetery in Sikes, La.
“Auntie” as she was affectionately called by many is survived by several nieces: Lydia Bryan of Blanchard, Geneva Perdue of Huttig, Ark., Mildren Prillaman of Chapel Hill, N.C., Eleanor Readdick of Brunswick, Ga., LaVerle Polly of Dallas, Texas; Nephews: Bobby Thornton of Mansfield, La., Clyde Herring of Sikes, La.; a host of grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who share in the lovely memories of this lady.
She was an active member of Sunday School Classes at Blanchard and Winnfield United Methodist Churches and the Home Demonstration Club of Winn Parish.
Miss Thornton was honored for her longevity by two presidents, two governors, and officials of Winnfield and Blanchard, and honored for her life-long service to others by her host of friends and relatives.
