LAKE CHARLES -- Elbert Spinks, 55, of Lake Charles died Sunday in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

A Pleasant Hill native, he had resided here since 1965. Spinks was manager of Phillips Cash and Carry Lumber Sales here. He was deacon at the Boulevard Baptist Church here, a World War II veteran and member of Masonic Lodge No. 38 in Natchitoches and the Masonic Universal Lodge 470 here.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hammer Funeral Home Chapel here with Rev. Ray Raddin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Pineville.

Elbert Spinks

Funeral services for Elbert Spinks, 55, of 1510 21st St., were at 10 a.m. today, April 26, in the Hammer Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev. Ray Raddin, pastor of the Boulevard Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pineville.

Mr. Spinks was manager of the Phillips Cash and Carry Lumber Co.

A native of Pleasant Hill, he had lived in Lake Charles since 1965. He was a deacon in the Boulevard Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Masonic Universal Lodge 470, and a member of the Masonic Lodge 38 in Natchitoches.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Merle Laughlin Spinks, one son, Joseph E. Spinks, and two daughters, Mrs. Sheryl Mose and Mrs. Cynthia Beatty, all of Lake Charles.

Also, his mother, Mrs. Rosa Spinks of Colfax; one brother, J. L. Spinks of Martin, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Jewell Baldwin of Raceland and Miss Marie Spinks of Colfax; and three grandchildren.
