Eldon Dewayne Ewing, Sr.
Funeral services for Chief Dewayne Ewing, Sr., will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011at Tioga Penecostal Church, Tioga, with Reverends Donald Privett, Doug Doyle and Stan Thrift officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Elser Field, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville with full Military Honors the V.F.W. Honor Guard of Jena, and flag folding by members of District V Fire Department, Pollock.
Chief Ewing, age 54, of Cottonport, formerly of Pollock, entered eternal rest on January 29, 2011 at his residence.
Dewayne, better known as “Big Daddy 501” was a member and Sunday School Teacher of Tioga Pentecostal Church for over 30 years.
In his lifetime he was employed by Alexandria City Hall, L.H. Bossier, Alpine Fire Department and as Chief of District V Fire Department, Pollock, from 1994 until his retirement. He was currently Vice President of Abundant Blessings Dis count Grocery, Cottonport, Louisiana. He was a member of the Lions Club, Tioga, a former Boy Scout, Scout Master and was a U.S. Army / National Guard Veteran. He was a 1974 graduate of Tioga High School and received a degree in Fire Science from LSU, He served as an LSU Fire Instructor, LSU Fire Investigator and Water Shuttle Evaluator. He was also a Licensed Gun Smith.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Catina LouAnn Ewing; father, Eldon T Ewing; grandparents, Hansford and Myrtle Cockerham, Ralph and Lillie Mae Ewing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Caresse Trahan Ewing of Cottonport; mother, Margaret Elaine Ewing of Esler Field; children, Alina Fitzgerald (Christopher) of Cottonport, Elaine Ewing (Henry Miles, Jr.) of Cottonport, Eldon D. Ewing, Jr. “Debo” (Colinda) of Fishville; two sisters, Margaret Ann Goudeau (Freddy) of Esler Field, Theresa Rene Probus (Tommy) of Esler Field, one brother, Raymond Ewing (Maxine) of Esler Field; grandchildren, Alan Dewayne Robertson, Joseph Tyler Ewing, Rebecca Elaine Ewing, Austin Dewayne Fitzgerald, Alexis Robertson and Mariah Greenhoward.
Pallbearers will be Yosha Goudeau, Waylon Trahan, Chris Goudeau, Ray Ewing, Justin Ewing, Bud Goudeau, Patrick Brooks and Derrick Brooks; honorary pallbearer s will be Tommy Riddick, Phil White, Jack Goudeau, Bill Smith, Melvin Christy, John Jewels, J.W. Coody, Larry Corley, Paul Corley, Mike Duncan and Ken Gremillion and all previous and present District V Firefighters.
Friends may call at Rush Funeral Home on Sunday, January 30, 2011 after 4:00 p.m. with all night visitation in the funeral home.
Visitation will resume on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Tioga Pentecostal Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
