Funeral services for E. D. (Gus) Sholmire, 70, of Carthage were scheduled at 10 a.m. March 22 at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marshall McQueen and Dr. A. N. Tiller officiating. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery [sic Carthage City Cemetery].
Mr. Sholmire, a retired groceryman, died March 20 at Panola General Hospital. A native of Shelby County, he was born Dec. 6, 1909, the son of David Fredrick Sholmire and Mary Lou Emma Dean Sholmire. He has lived in Carthage 41 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carthage, Waco Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge #521 of Carthage and Sharon Temple Shrine of Tyler. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: His wife, Louise Sholmire of Carthage; one daughter: Dava Giles of Carthage; two sisters: Mildred Enmon of Texas City and Ella Ree Brewer of Mansfield, Ark.; and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Shriner's Burn Institute of Galveston.
