E. M. Thornton Is Dead; Was Forester For Many Years

E. M. Thornton, of 115 Hudson Lane, 81, a retired forester, died at his home early Tuesday. The funeral will be held at Mulhearn Funeral chapel Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Rev. George W. Pomeroy, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate and interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be E. A. Freeman, J. E. Crow, Gordon Ward, F. H. Wilson, E. R. Ford, and J. M. Thornton.

Mr. Thornton, member of the First Methodist church, had spent a large part of his life as forester and had served in state posts in both Arkansas and Louisiana. He resided for many years in El Dorado and since he retired he had made Monroe his home.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Paula Thornton; a daughter, Miss Paula Mae Thornton, a nurse here; and four [sic three] sons, Earl, Huttig, Ark.; M. E. of Lumberton, N. C., and Ernest Thornton, Bolton, N. C.
