Funeral services for Elizabeth ``Betty'' Burts Peters, 89, formerly of DeRidder, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, in DeRidder, with pastor and friend, the Rev. Jon Tellifero officiating.

Interment will follow at Beauregard Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home, of DeRidder.

Visitation will be at Labby Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

She died Thursday, December, 11, 2008 in a Winston-Salem, North Carolina hospital.

Betty, as she was known to her family and friends, was born May 11, 1919 in Abbeville, S.C. She attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. and graduated from the Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing, where she met and married her late husband, Col. A. L. ``Pete'' Peters. Betty and Pete traveled extensively, including tours in Bangkok, Thailand, and Washington, D.C., before settling down in DeRidder in 1964.

For 23 years, Betty was on the staff of the DeRidder Clinic and was active in the community. She was a member of the DeRidder Gardenettes, the Thursday Study Club, Retired Officers Wives, American Heart Association, and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in which she served as Chaplain. In 1998, she and Pete were honored as the King and Queen of the DeRidder Mardi Gras.

She is survived by two children, Libby Frost of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Jimmy Peters of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Brian and Kelly Frost, Brisa Trinchero, and Austin Peters; and two great grandchildren, Brady and Jillian Frost.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the American Heart Association at 127 Broad Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.
