Shoots Self By Accident In Gloster

GLOSTER, Miss. -- Ellis Butler, 49, accidentally killed himself Saturday morning when his shotgun went off.

The blast hit the man in the side of the head, said Amite County Coroner E. E. Belleu and Dep. Sheriff Norman Travis. He died instantly.

The officials said Butler reached in a corner behind a washing machine to pick up his shotgun. As he was bringing it over the machine, the weapon's hammer caught on the machine and the gun discharged.

The accident happened at 10:30 a.m. at his home between Gloster and Crosby.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, mother, six sisters, one brother.
