Ellis Joseph Saik
MADISON -- Ellis Joseph Saik, 76, a retired business owner, died of heart failure Sunday at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Services were Tuesday at Madison United Methodist Church with burial in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Mr. Saik, a lifelong resident of the Jackson area, was associated with the grocery business for 30 years. He later opened Briarwood Package Store in Jackson.
He served as a colonel under former Gov. Hugh White and on former Jackson Mayor Dale Danks' Executive Advisory Committee. He was also on the Board of Directors for Lake Cavalier and served as entertainment chairman.
Mr. Saik was a member of Madison United Methodist church. He was a member of the Cattlemen's Association. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include: wife, Lillian; sons, Mike P. Saik and Albert J. Saik, both of Jackson; daughters, Patricia Mizie of Madison and Nafie Hudspeth of Clinton; brother, George P. Saik of Jackson; sisters, Elizabeth Dahduh and Vivian Betrous, both of Jackson; stepdaughter, Pamela A. Lawrence of Madison; stepson, Joseph F. Ades of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, or to the Carmelite Monastery, 2155 Terry Road, Jackson, Miss.
