WHITTINGTON

Elmer James Whittington entered peacefully into rest at the Livermore Veterans Hospital on July 26, 1999. He was 90.

Born in Mississippi on May 23, 1909, Elmer was [a] retired ironworker for the Ironworkers Union, Local #378 and a longtime resident of Hayward. His beloved wife, Elizabeth preceded Elmer in death, in 1997.

Elmer is survived by his devoted son, Steve Whittington of Alamo; grandchildren, Jason & Joshua Whittington; brother, Benny of Mississippi; sisters, Claudine, Bertha and Irene, all of Mississippi; many loving friends and extended family.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 pm at Grissom's San Lorenzo Chapel/Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, 10 am, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
