Elmer Ralph Ewing, Sr.
A Memorial service honoring Elmer Ralph Ewing, Sr. will be held Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at Sieper Community Church Fellowship Hall. Chaplain Byron Singleton, Dr. Charles Rogers, Rev. B. G. Dyess and Danny George will be officiating. Interment will be private.
Mr. Elmer Ewing, age 91, of the St. Clair Community entered eternal rest on August 27, 2011 at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Ewing was a graduate of Manifest High School and Louisiana Tech. He was a retired forester and timber dealer, involved in every facet of the timber industry, or, as he said “from the stump to the mill.” In September 2010, Mr. Ewing was inducted into the Louisiana Loggers Hall of Fame. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army 24th Infantry division in the Southwest Pacific operations in World War II. Mr. Ewing was a member of The Louisiana Forestry Association, Louisiana Tech Alumni Association, Eastern Star Friendship Chapter #210 at Sugartown, American Legion, VFW, Disabled Veterans, Shrine Club and many other organizations. His numerous honors and awards are simply too long to list.
Mr. Ewing is survived by his beloved wife, Eula Ewing of the St. Clair Community, one son, Elmer “Bubba” Ewing of Cotile Lake; two daughters, Ann Hilderbrand (James) of Alabama and Rita Sallas (Bill) of Tennessee. Also five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. An extended family he loved very much and spoke of to friend's often as “Eula's Family”, Cheryl McLeod of DeQuincy, LA Gwen Keran of Pace, Florida, Norma Hackler (Craig) of Austin, Texas, Kathy Nafe (Bob) of Marshall, TX; three grandsons, Roy McLeod, Shane Nafe, Josh Nafe; two adopted grandsons, Casey Newman and Austin Holland; three granddaughters, Patti Bonin, Amy Bennett and Elizabeth Hackler; six great grandsons and seven great granddaughters.
