Elva B. Meador

Elva B. Meador, 95, died Friday, February 29, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Indian Springs Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Revs. Buddy Keyes, Tommy Davis and Joe Fowler will officiate.

Mrs. Elva was born on February 19, 1913, and had reached her 95th birthday before her death.

Most of all she was a devout Christian, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and friend. Her family was important to her and brought her much joy and happiness. She was a strong community-minded person and felt that education could mean the difference in everyone's life. She was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church where she taught ladies' Sunday School and VBS for more than 50 years.

After being a homemaker for many years, she became affiliated with Field Enterprises, World Book Encyclopedia, rising to regional manager throughout Jones and the surrounding counties. She was very active in the PTA where she was district representative for several years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Darling Meador; her parents, Lawrence and Cora Bishop; and her 12 siblings.

Survivors include her children, Ruthie and G.H. English of Ocean Springs, Annette and Charles Cruise, Garry D. and Mary Jo Meador, and Randy Meador, all of Laurel; nine grandchildren, Kathie Broom and Greg English of Ocean Springs, Darla Bryant, Charlotte Welch, Shannon Jordan, Kari Davis, and Mollie Meador, all of Laurel, Kevin Meador of Biloxi, and Captain Eric Meador of Jacksonville, N.C. (currently serving in Iraq), and 26 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-love Mitch Bryant, Reggie Broom, Greg English, Todd Jordan, Kevin Meador, and Douglas Welch.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Indian Springs Baptist Church building fun or to Gideons International.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 until 8: 30 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.
