Elva Velma Currey
Elva Currey, 89, a longtime Paducah resident passed away Thursday, Feb 9, 2012 in Childress. The family will receive visitors at Zapata Funeral Home of Paducah Sunday, Feb 12th from 6 till 8 pm. Funeral Service will be at 2:00pm, Monday, Feb 13, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Paducah with Pastor Bob Beck officiating. Interment will follow at the Paducah Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Elva was born March 11, 1922 in Eldorado, OK to Mack & Ruth Laseman. She graduated Eldorado high school with the class of 1940 with the honor of Class Valedictorian. In 1942 she married the love of her life Lee Currey. Together they lived, laughed, loved, worked and raised their family. Elva devoted her life to her home , family and church. She would want to be remembered for her love of her family, her Lord and her church family. She was a tireless worker serving her church as the church clerk, teaching all age groups of Sunday school, singing for many years in the church choir. W.M.U. and participating in all the remaining church activities.
During WW II, Elva served her country as a civil service employee. She was the secretary to the Commander of Altus Air Force Base and was sent to Washing D.C. to get a higher security clearance for the demands of her job. In her later years she worked as a successful independent insurance agent. In her relaxation time she continued to work by cooking, sewing, and doing several types of difficult needle work.
Elva is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years Lee Currey, 1 brother - Elton Laseman, 1 sister - Jo Laseman.
She is survived by her daughter & son in law - Janell and Rodney Rochelle of Paducah, 2 sisters - Glenna Denton of Tempe AZ & Grace Mullenix of Phoenix AZ. 2 grandchildren & their spouses - Andy Rochelle of Paducah, Tasha & Rickey Hughes of Floydada. 4 great grandchildren - Kaleb & Ashlyn Rochelle of Paducah Kendal & Kason Hughes of Floydada.
