Mr. Elvin Daigle (1916 - 2009)

Elvin Daigle, a native of Sulphur, died January 16, 2009 in California, a day after his 93rd birthday.

Elvin was born in Sulphur, Louisiana, in 1916, the son of Lazime and Mellisa Girlinghouse Daigle (later Broussard) of Sulphur. He was the only son, with two older sisters, Bessie and Lillye, and two younger, Helen and Barbara.

After high school, Elvin went to work for Sulphur Motor Co. as a mechanic and became Service Manager, a position he held for 20 years. In 1940, he married Helen Mayo of Lake Charles, and the two settled on Stanford Street in Sulphur. They had three children, Charlotte, Ronald, and Jeanie, and were members of Henning Memorial Methodist Church in Sulphur.

A veteran of World War II, Daigle served as a Transport Corporal in the 70th Infantry Division, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He was stationed in France and Germany.

In 1956, Elvin and his family moved to Palo Alto, California. He worked as a research technician at Stanford Research Institute, and later at Hewlett-Packard, retiring in 1982.

Helen Daigle died in 2007. Elvin passed away on January 16th at Stanford Hospital of complications following surgery, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his daughter Charlotte of Santa Fe, NM, his son Ron of Redmond, WA, his daughter Jeanie of Palo Alto, CA, and their families; his sisters Helen Johnson of Sulphur and Barbara Heddins of Fruitvale, TX; and his relatives in Sulphur, Lake Charles, and Cameron.

A Memorial Service will take place February 21 at Channing House, 850 Webster St., Palo Alto, CA. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Wesley Methodist Church in Palo Alto or the Channing House Employees Appreciation Fund.
