BOYKIN, ELWOOD BRANCE

BOYKIN, ELWOOD BRANCE A retired security guard and a resident of Zachary, he died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 82, born Aug. 31, 1916, in Smith County, Miss. Visiting at Brown Funeral Home, Gloster, Miss., 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Robert Toney and the Rev. Carlos Dawson. Interment in New Hope Cemetery, near Gloster.

Survived by wife, Vassar Dawson Boykin; four sons, L.H. Boykin, Morgan City, Gavin Boykin, Zachary, Kermit Boykin, Centreville, Miss., and Jerry Boykin, St. Francisville; six daughters, Mary Carol Bonck, Baker, Tealo Toney, Gloster, Lenda Freeman, Jonesboro, Veronica Plaisance, Ferriday, Scarlet Collier, Greenwell Springs, and Terry Morrison, Zachary; a brother, Carl Boykin, Ferriday; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law.

Preceded in death by mother, Mary Dobey Boykin; father, the Rev. James F. Boykin; a sister, Mamie Webb; and three brothers, Alva Boykin, Jack Boykin and Felon Boykin.

Pallbearers will be Ladale Boykin, Shanon Boykin, Kermie Boykin, Kenny Boykin, Bennett Rogers and Jeremy Boykin. Honorary pallbearers are Clay Boykin, Patrick McMorrison and Cody Freeman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
