Elzie George Adams
Funeral services for Elzie G. Adams were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 200 [sic 2000] in the Welcome Home Baptist Church of the Hudson Community, Dodson, LA; burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA.
On December 20, 1914, Mr. Adams was born in Sikes, LA. His age was 85 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his father, N.G.W. Adams in 1936; his brother Leonard Adams in 1985; and his mother, Lena Adams 1986; and his wife Ruby Jordan Adams in February 2000.
Bro. Bill Moore, pastor of Welcome Home and Bro. Wallace Ingles officiated. The musicians were Carolyn Addington at the organ, Janette Moore at the piano, and Ron Preston at the steel guitar.
Mrs. Addington and Mr. Preston, grandson-in-law, did an instrumental of ``Blessed Assurance''. Barry Feriend, a nephew-in-law, sang ``Thank You''. Barry chose this song because it is appropriate for ``Uncle Elzie''. Ann Feriend, Elzie's niece, joined her husband in a duet ``Stepping in the Light''. Delton Carpenter sang ``Arms of Love''.
Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Jean (Adams) Murphy and husband Claude of the Hudson Community; two granddaughters, Victoria Murphy, also of Hudson and Cathy (Murphy) Preston and husband Ron of Burlington, NC; one great grandson, Jonathan Preston of Burlington, NC; two brothers-in-law, Roy Jordan and wife Bettye, John Jordan and wife Jerline, all of Hudson; one sister-in-law, Ruth Adams, of Houston, TX and many nieces and nephews.
The Deacon Board of Welcome Home Baptist Church were pallbearers - John Jordan, Jason Jordan, Vernon Carpenter, Wayne Roberts, Joe Shields and Kirk Miles.
Honorary pallbearers - Marshall Gates, Marlon Smith, Judge Glen David Roberts, Judge H. L. Yelverton, Drew Adams, Glenwood Adams and Aswell Adams.
His family and friends held very special places in his hart [sic heart] and we are sure there has been and will be wonderful reunions.
