Emily Weeks-Call
Emily Weeks-Call died July 4, 2002.
She was born in Gridley, California September 6, 1911, to August and Martha Gattiker who had immigrated from Switzerland. She had an older brother, Theo, and a younger sister, Mildred. Her younger brother, Werner, died from a gun accident, as a child.
The valedictorian of her high school class, she attended the University of California, as well as a business college in California. She married Eugene Martin Stoddard on June 11, 1932. They had four children: Myrna Lane, (deceased), Martin S., Karen Jean, and Werner Glen. They divorced in 1947. Emily moved to Provo later that year, where she attended Brigham Young University.
She married Clyde Everett Weeks on December 22, 1948, a widowed father of three children: Clyde Jr., Sharee, and Michael. That union blessed them with another child, Jerri Susan. Graduating from BYU with a Business degree, she taught business classes and was employed with the BYU Alumni Association, where she worked for 20 years. She was responsible for the gathering of all the names of BYU alumni and compiling them on the computer.
Her husband, Clyde, joined the BYU faculty in 1957, and was active in the administration of the university fund-raising activities. He served as Bishop of the Provo 8th Ward for many years. Later, he was Bishop of a BYU ward, as well as a member of a BYU Stake Presidency. In 1972 Clyde and Emily were called on an LDS mission to Cambridge, England. After their return, they moved to Three Fountains condominium. Clyde passed away in 1979. In 1981 Emily was called to serve a mission at the Switzerland Temple, where she could use the German language she had learned, as a child. When she arrived home, she was called as an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple
Emily married Lester Dobie Call Nov. 24, 1989, a childhood friend from California. He passed away July 24, 1995.
Emily's life has been devoted to the LDS Church, the rearing of her family, and music. She was a member of the Madsen Memorial Chorus, as well as the Alice Louise Reynolds Club. She has traveled widely and was a gifted seamstress. She has over 50 grandchildren and over 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, in the Edgemont 9th Ward LDS Chapel, 4300 North Canyon Road, Provo. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Berg Mortuary in Provo, 185 East Center Street, and from 9:15-10:15 a.m. on Monday at the church.
